Wood Flooring and the Environment
At Real Wood Floors we are
committed to being good environmental stewards.
We believe we achieve environmental stewardship
through intelligently designed flooring. We
start off by partnering with like-minded lumber suppliers
who take care to procure hardwoods in a sustainable
manner. We then make our floors with a thick
enough wear layer to withstand the years of abuse
they take in a home environment. By using a
thick wear layer if the floor is scuffed or scratched
it can be sanded and refinished to bring it back to
its initial beauty. We want to give you a floor
that is going to last as long as your house is standing.
By taking the
hardwood lumber and cutting it into veneer we’re
able to make that lumber go 4 times further than if
we had made it into traditional ¾ solid flooring.
As you can see below one piece of 4/4 (1" thick)
lumber will produce one piece of traditional solid
3/4" flooring.
However as you can see we
take this one piece of 4/4 lumber and make 4 veneers
or top layers. These 4 veneers make 4 pieces of flooring out of that same 1" thick piece of lumber. By cutting the veneer a thick 5mm our
flooring has almost the same amount of sandable surface
as a traditional solid wood floor but with added stability.

The backing of our flooring
is made variety of hardwoods that are chosen both
for their hardness and stability as well as their
abundance. We conserve our most precious hardwood
commodities by attaining a higher yield from the veneer
and combine them with plentiful woods that make the
floor stable and durable. This is how we achieve
environmental stewardship through intelligently designed
flooring. |
